1. Sourcing, Provenance & Philosophy

Where does ETHERVA source its ingredients from?

We partner with small and medium-sized plantations across the Indian subcontinent, sourcing directly from ecologically suitable growing regions. Working close to source allows for strong traceability, ethical practices, and consistent quality.

What does provenance mean at ETHERVA?

Provenance refers to clear knowledge of an ingredient’s origin, harvest conditions, and processing pathway. ETHERVA maintains traceability across sourcing and production stages for both Unrefined & Raw and Naturally Refined products.

Why do you harvest only during peak seasons?

Peak-season harvesting ensures oilseeds are processed at their highest quality, potency, and stability, preserving the natural characteristics of the finished ingredient. Economies of scale at this seed collection phase translate

What is ETHERVA’s core mission?

Our mission is to uphold clear provenance, responsible rural silviculture, and cooperative partnerships while supporting a transparent, all-natural DIY formulation movement.

How do customers fit into the ETHERVA story?

Every purchase supports ethical sourcing and conscious formulation. ETHERVA grows alongside its community of formulators, makers, and creators committed to integrity and transparency.

2. Processing & Product Categories

Are ETHERVA products refined or unrefined?

ETHERVA offers two categories:

Unrefined & Raw: Not refined, not bleached, not deodorized and closest to their natural state.

Naturally Refined: Gently refined using physical methods and natural solvents to improve color, aroma, or usability without harsh chemical treatment.

Why are truly unrefined ingredients harder to work with?

Unrefined ingredients naturally vary in aroma, texture, color, and crystallization. They require careful handling across sourcing, storage, formulation, and logistics.

How does ETHERVA manage these challenges?

Through controlled sourcing, thoughtful packaging, and continuous technical learning, we balance raw authenticity with practical usability.

3. Sensory Characteristics & Expectations

Do unrefined ETHERVA butters and oils have a natural smell?

Yes. Natural earthy, nutty, or botanical notes are normal for unrefined ingredients and typically soften once incorporated into formulations.

Is Unrefined Cocoa Butter different in aroma from other unrefined butters?

Yes. Unrefined Cocoa Butter is a natural outlier and has a rich, chocolate-like aroma. This fragrance is intrinsic to the cocoa bean and not added.

Can packaging cause temporary odors?

Occasionally, enclosed packaging may cause transient odors during transit. Allowing the product to breathe at room temperature usually restores its natural or neutral aroma.

Are ETHERVA butters hard or soft in texture?

Most seed butters are firm at room temperature and melt with body heat.
Unrefined & Raw butters may appear more brittle or flaky, while Naturally Refined versions tend to be more soft and uniform.

4. Formulation, Usage & Performance

Who are ETHERVA products designed for?

Our products are crafted for small and medium-scale formulators, DIY skincare creators, and artisanal soapmakers seeking high-quality ingredients without industrial overprocessing.

Are ETHERVA ingredients suitable for sensitive formulations?

Yes, with appropriate handling. For Unrefined & Raw butters used in infant or sensitive-skin applications, gentle melting and straining through fine cloth is recommended. Naturally Refined products generally require less preparation.

Can ETHERVA butters and oils be applied directly to skin?

Yes. Both categories can be applied neat when softened or melted. Patch testing is recommended, especially for sensitive skin.

Are ETHERVA butters and oils water-soluble?

No. They are insoluble in water but dissolve readily in oils, cosmetic esters, and oil-based formulations when warmed.

Are ETHERVA ingredients suitable for both skin and hair care?

Yes. They are widely used in skincare, haircare, soaps, balms, and massage formulations.

Unrefined & Raw products are often chosen for maximum bioactive retention, while Naturally Refined products offer ease of formulation.

Do ETHERVA butters and oils clog pores?

Most ETHERVA butters and oils are considered non-comedogenic when used appropriately in balanced formulations.

5. Storage, Shelf Life & Handling

What is the shelf life of ETHERVA products?

Shelf life is typically up to two years when stored correctly. Natural variation may occur, especially with Unrefined & Raw products.

How should ETHERVA butters and oils be stored?

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space away from direct sunlight and heat. Breathable or climate-appropriate packaging is recommended, particularly for unrefined products. Re-vacuum packing is recommended.

Do you provide technical or safety documentation?

Yes. Standard safety and handling documentation is available to support responsible formulation and professional use.

6. Ethics, Safety & Responsibility

Are ETHERVA products tested on animals?

No. ETHERVA does not conduct animal testing. All products are intended for external cosmetic use.

Are ETHERVA products safe for pets?

These ingredients are intended for external cosmetic use. Consultation with a qualified professional is recommended before use on animals.
